Q: I've started looking into going on a home exchange holiday later in the year. I have a cute but very compact 2-bedroom house in North Cornwall. When arranging a home exchange, do people tend to swap with homes of a similar size and value?
A: The simple answer is no! Comparing homes in very different locations based on value or size, is generally not a good way to find the best home swap matches.
We do, very occasionally, find home exchangers that emphasised the value of their home and its square footage in their listing's description (sometimes indicating that only offers for similar homes will be considered). However, this is really quite rare and most people planning a home swap are simply looking for a nice welcoming home large enough to comfortably accommodate them and in an area of interest.
Although it is up to members to decide on homes that will be suitable for their needs, restricting offers considered by criteria such as value makes little sense. For example, a small apartment in London or New York might very likely be worth in market terms more than a large grand house in the countryside.
Your cute 2-bedroom house in North Cornwall sounds lovely and I just know that it will appeal to so many home exchangers ...no matter the size of their home!
