Lovely week away in Jim & Susan's barn
"We had an enchanting home swap holiday staying in Jim and Susan's beautifully renovated country barn in Northumberland. The rustic charm seamlessly blended with modern comforts, crafting a cozy atmosphere that truly felt like a home away from home. Every detail, from the yummy scones and cream to and Prosecco, was thoughtfully considered, adding an extra layer of warmth to our experience. Susan was available via WhatsApp and was very attentive and helpful to all of our requests, even helping with some babysitting which went above our expectations- it was truly wonderful!
The children loved paddling in the stream (thanks for loaning us wellies!) and also feeding the flock of orphan lambs every morning. We also saw a few large hares in the field.
The location of the barn proved to be a gateway to history, as we explored the ancient marvel of Hadrian's Wall, just a stone's throw away. Walking along this historic boundary and absorbing the rich heritage added a fascinating dimension to our retreat. The barn's proximity to Hadrian's Wall and the surrounding areas allowed us to immerse ourselves in the beauty of the countryside, creating memories that will last a lifetime. I’d definitely recommend the local pub Greenhead Hotel (food was gorgeous). Also the Roman Army museum and Vindolanda to visit.
This haven became not only a delightful escape but also a doorway to learning more about the captivating Roman history. Additionally we also got the opportunity to meet and get to know Susan and Jim. It was our first non-reciprocal home exchange and we look forward to hosting them back as well as they hosted us when they visit us next!
Thank you Susan and Jim x"
