The following article was sent in to us by Marguerite, a long time member and experienced home swapper. Marguerite describes her home swap experiences during the last year and looks forward to many more swaps during 2019.
"This morning someone asked me 'how many home exchanges did you do last year?'. So I counted, and, to my surprise, the number was eight! Eight home swaps in 2018, starting with Dublin in early Spring, and ending in Suffolk in December. Rome, France, Pembrokeshire, Cornwall, North Wales and London kept us busy through summer to Autumn.
Each place has left us with lovely memories, the beautiful homes we've been lucky enough to stay in and the joys we've had exploring new destinations both in this country and abroad. For example, in Suffolk we saw a stunning murmuration of starlings, we stood and watched their incredible display for nearly an hour before returning to a beautiful Tudor Grade II listed house where we warmed up in front of the log stove. On this same swap we also visited the breathtakingly beautiful Ely Cathedral - which I highly recommend visiting. Many thanks to our home exchange hosts, Jack and Eve, for this wonderful week in your beautiful home.
Every one of our holiday home swaps was wonderful and full of fantastic finds. In London we visited the fascinating Mithraic Temple on Walbrook Street. Rome had the Necropolis under St Peters. Pembrokeshire the gorgeous wide wild but very peaceful and quiet beaches. In North Wales we saw a family of seals. La Rochelle in France we enjoyed lazy mornings and evenings in the wonderful garden as well as so many amazing trips exploring the local area. Dublin with its character, music and food, such a young and vibrant place, set among so many beautiful old buildings. Cornwall... well, Cornwall had everything, pretty villages, gorgeous beaches, cliff walks, and cooling down in the sea during what was a very very hot English summer!
2018 was exciting, interesting, educational and always superbly surprising. You never know when or where your next holiday opportunity will pop up, but thanks to Home Base Holidays, I always know it will.
So many thanks once again for a wonderful year of travel discoveries. We are looking forward to 2019 and all the home exchange adventures to come ...we can't wait!
Best wishes, Marguerite and travel companions"
