‘Were you born in a barn?’ This is a phrase I heard often as a child growing up on a farm in Canada (when I left a house door open). Well, browsing through recent home swap offers on Home Base Holidays, from the number of converted barns for exchange, there could be many people who actually were born in barns!
If you live in a ‘conventional’ house or apartment, it’s fun to look for a completely different type of home for a home exchange (and living in your home will be a different experience for your exchange guests).

Williamstown, Massachusetts, USA This lovely home is a large (sleeps 8), newly renovated barn conversion. Williamstown is a beautiful New England college town in the Berkshires. The house is right in town, but in a secluded, bucolic location on an acre of land; walking distance to hiking trails and tennis courts, with golf course, horseback riding, great organic farmers markets, farm stands, etc. nearby.
Suffolk barn: 200 year old converted barn in Woodbridge
Woodbridge, Suffolk, England The house is 200 years old. It is a converted traditional Suffolk barn set in big gardens with children's swing and table tennis in the garage. The house is in a pretty village which has a thriving pub, church and village hall. It is close to the delightful riverside market town of Woodbridge which has shops, cinema, railway station, pubs and restaurants.
