A: The simple answer is no! Comparing homes in very different locations based on value or size, is generally not a good way to find the best home swap matches.
We do, very occasionally, find a new Home Base Holidays member has emphasised the value of his/her home and its square footage in the description, and indicated that only offers for homes of comparable value will be considered. Such homes are often very grand and it is understandable that the owners may sometimes feel concerned about swapping for a home that's much more modest, or that such a swap would be unfair. Although it is up to members to decide on homes that will be suitable for their needs, restricting offers considered by criteria such as value and size makes little sense unless the swap is between homes in areas where house prices and size are very similar.
An example of the problem of home value based decisions for many swaps: a modest Edwardian semi in a London suburb is very likely to be worth in market terms much more than many large, luxurious rural homes with acres of land and swimming pools!
In many cases, a modest home may actually be better placed for visiting lots of attractions than a luxurious, but remote home. It really all depends on what you are looking for from an exchange - a particular type of house/location or to visit an area of interest while staying in a conveniently situated home large enough to accommodate your family.
