We're always delighted to hear members' home swap experiences. The following trip report is from Alicia, a member from La Laguna in the Canary Islands who swapped homes with Vicky & Matt from Yorkshire, England:
"The exchange with Vicky and Matt was a big success. We felt instantly welcome at their home- they left dinner for us as well as homemade beer and elderflower cordial, and we sat in the lovely garden to eat and enjoy the summer evening- what more could you ask for? The two weeks went really fast as we visited Leeds, York, Harrogate, quaint villages, wonderful estate homes... we went as far as Whitby and Robin Hood Bay and it was worth the trip- the Dales are fantastic, a truly rural landscape to explore. Hiking in the moors was great and we had fabulous weather. Leeds is a lively city, great for shopping- for us the big highlight was the Royal Armouries, a first class museum which we though clearly better than the newly refurbished Imperial War Museum in London. Vicky and Matt left a folder for us with lots of instructions in case we needed something, and many ideas for days visits. We enjoyed their books- and they really have a wealth of maps and guidebooks on the area. We also loved the piano, watering the plants in the evening, and cooking in the spacious kitchen. We had a great meal in the Greek restaurant round the corner that they recommended- there is everything you need nearby, supermarket, parks, shops, churches. Our exchange was not simultaneous so we got to meet Matt and Vicky when they came to Tenerife and it was really good to get to know them and spend time together. Thank you again for all your kindnesses! We will never forget our wonderful holiday in Yorkshire." Alica
