Q: We have a bungalow on small complex in Playa Blanca, Lanzarote. Would it be possible to swap using this? Can we put our place as available any time without swapping with the people who use it, at the same time? Do we have to swap with those people and for a similar amount of time? Thanks, Kate.
A: You can certainly swap your bungalow in Lanzarote for a ‘non-simultaneous’ exchange; just choose this exchange option (and any others you could consider) on the membership form when joining Home Base Holidays. You can also include further details within your description (and in your exchange offer messages) to make potential exchange partners aware that your bungalow can be available at any time; also include dates that you would be free for your part of an exchange. If you exchange with another member who is also offering a (usually second) home for a non-simultaneous swap, that will give both parties much flexibility, enabling you to choose the best dates/length of exchange to suit both.
Although most exchanges are for similar periods, some members are happy to have exchange guests stay in their homes for a longer period than they themselves need. It is up to the individuals to agree on what they both feel is a fair exchange. Generally, members swap with the same members even when the exchange is non-simultaneous as organising a series of swaps could be problematic if one link in the chain broke down. But, again, it is what you feel comfortable with and whether you can handle any additional complications that might be involved in arranging non-reciprocal exchanges.
