Egaa, Aarhus, Denmark
I am an English-origin academic employed as associate professor at Aarhus University, currently working on patent policy. My wife is a qualified German architect, currently working in building service design and installation. Our children are Ben, 10, and Lili, 6 who speak Danish, German and English. We want to spend some time in a German city where the father can attend a German language course and the children and mother can enjoy the city, German language attractions and preferably do some longish walks in mountains.
The home for exchange: Ground floor two bedroom flat, 800m walk from the beach via a playing field, bridge over Egaa river. Beach is sandy, low tidal range, warm through summer, shallow, good kayaking.
300m from buses, 7km to Aarhus. Safe for children - no roads directly outside. Excellent cycle path to city centre, via sea and beech woods; north to many good sandy and unpopulated beaches (eg. 4km to Skæring, centre for windsurfing, wonderful at low tide for children) all blue flag status.
Half hour drive to Mols Bjerge, Ebeltoft or Danish lake district (fantastic fresh water lakes for bathing, boating). Aarhus, 300 000 pop. Lutheran Dom - a beautiful Danish city.
