Home exchanging gives you the chance to explore new places as if you were a local - you're not stuck in a hotel room in the tourist areas, you're living in a real home in a real local neighbourhood.
Many members taking part in home exchanges like to also discover more about the history of the places they visit. One advantage of home exchanging is that your home swap hosts are able to give you insider local knowledge on places to visit - this could be nearby museums or sites hidden away off the typical tourist trail.
Shown below is a really nice trip report we've received from Home Base Holidays member, Wendy, on her home swap in Sardinia where she visited some of Sardinia's wonderful historical sites.
"It was a very hot June and so we were delighted with the miles of beautiful coastline. We were left everything we needed for a wonderful time by the sea. We visited Roman sites up mountains and down dales along Roman roads (many of the sites are still being excavated). We ate excellent meals out each day but we could have easily cooked at Romeo's home. We loved Romeo's house and we loved Sardinia." Wendy (Yorkshire, England)
Wendy's home swap highlights:
- Archaeology everywhere! Neuralgic, Carthaginian, Greek, Roman.
- Beautiful area with lovely salt lakes.
- Cabras is a wonderful old Sardinian town with excellent museums.
- Perfect beaches for swimming.
