Most people associate home exchange with vacations/holidays and, indeed, this is still by far the most popular reason for swapping homes. However, Home Base Holidays members are using the service in some very imaginative ways. We'll be looking at a few of these in this series of posts.
More and more freelancers and people running online home based businesses have the freedom to work almost anywhere ('location independent'). The only requirements are often reliable phone and internet connections. Home Base Holidays members who fit this category make ideal home exchangers as they are generally able to be very flexible on dates, length of exchange and exact locations (much like our many retired members). Some recent examples:
A London couple with two young children: 'We're very much
open for offers, currently working on freelance projects that are not location
specific so we like the idea of taking off for anything from one week to two
months'. See the family's cosy maisonette (in photo) in the vibrant east end of London...a
quirky and very loved home with a lovely garden.
A single Londoner: 'I'm a freelance translator and work from home, so I would bring a laptop and combine sight-seeing with work for the duration of my stay'. See her first-floor flat in South London; good transport links and nearby shops, restaurants and a lovely park on its doorstep.
A single freelancer offers her flat in Rome for exchange, along with her holiday house (above), originally a stable built in 1633, in Frontignano, Macerataa : 'I am freelance therefore open to all kinds of offers'.
Are you a location independent worker? Have you used a home swap (or maybe several) to combine work with seeing a different part of the world? We'd love to hear your stories - leave a comment or contact us.
